“Proprioception” with Maya Hey
(PhD candidate in Communication Studies, Concordia)
Monday, November 27, 5-7:00 pm. Light refreshments served.
EV 10.625 – Ethnography Lab
An evening workshop on proprioception: the physiological phenomenon of the sense of self in space. Proprioception is knowing and sensing one’s orientation in a given space; it is also knowing where self ends and rest begins – a physical and material mode of attention which often gets overlooked in the text-based world of academia. This workshop will attune the researcher to this ‘sense of self’ through movement exercises, intended to augment the researcher’s awareness of self, space, other, and ethics in nonverbal interaction.
Participants should bring a notebook, water bottle, and comfortable clothing.
The Ethnography Lab is wheelchair accessible and activities will be tailored to participants’ mobilities. For other accessibility questions or accommodations, please contact Alix Johnson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
