Proprioception: the physiological phenomenon of the sense of self in space. Proprioception is knowing and sensing one’s orientation. It is knowing where the self ends and the rest begins. It is a physical and material mode of attention often overlooked in the text-based world of academia.

This workshop attunes participants to this sense of self and other – and its implications for conducting interpersonal research – through movement exercises followed by discussion and writing activity. The workshop space is wheelchair-accessible, and activities are tailored to participants’ mobilities. Please direct accessibility questions and requests to Alix Johnson: albajohn@ucsc.edu.

Participants should bring a notebook, water bottle, and comfortable clothing. The Ethnography Lab is wheelchair accessible and activities will be tailored to participants’ mobilities. For other accessibility questions or accommodations, please contact Alix Johnson (albajohn@ucsc.edu).

*This workshop is back by popular demand – participants in the 2017 workshop, as well as new participants, are welcome to attend!
